Lagos 2027: GAC Adopts Hamzat as Consensus Candidate, to Purchase N50m Nomination Form

The All Progressives Congress Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State has adopted the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the party’s governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

The decision was announced following a closed-door strategic meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, attended by key party leaders, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi.

As part of its endorsement, the 34-member council also resolved to purchase the party’s governorship nomination form, valued at N50 million, for Hamzat, describing the move as a demonstration of its full support for his candidacy.

Despite the consensus arrangement, the council maintained that primary elections would still be conducted for all positions in line with party guidelines, to ensure fairness and provide opportunities for other aspirants.

A total of 23 GAC members attended the meeting, including Tokunbo Abiru, Ganiyu Solomon, Musiliu Obanikoro, and James Odunmbaku, among others.

The development follows an earlier show of support by Governor Sanwo-Olu and members of the State Executive Council, who received Hamzat and GAC members during a consultation visit at the State House, Marina, shortly after the council’s meeting.

Party leaders at the meeting openly backed Hamzat’s aspiration to succeed Sanwo-Olu, signaling growing momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Lagos.
