The Lagos State Government has approved the domestication and implementation of agreements reached with university-based unions in its state-owned tertiary institutions.

This was disclosed In a statement issued on Wednesday by Mr Tolani Sule, Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, the government conveyed the approval of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for several welfare demands presented by the unions.
According to the letter, Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved the payment of 40% Consolidated Tertiary Allowance (CATA) and 10% Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for academic staff, the adoption of monthly allowances for Readers and Professors at N70,000 and N145,000 respectively, and 35% revised allowances for non-academic staff across all Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions.
The implementation takes effect from January 1st, 2026, with arrears to be paid in two tranches alongside the October and November 2026 salaries. The government also stated that all allowances will be tax-free.
The Commissioner said relevant government agencies have been directed to commence immediate implementation in line with extant financial regulations.
He appealed to the leadership of ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT in Lagos State-owned universities to call off the ongoing strike and resume work immediately, while appreciating the unions for their patience and maturity during negotiations.
