Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspected cultists allegedly involved in criminal activities across the Apapa, Ijora and Badia areas of the state.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence on the activities of the suspects.
According to the police, the operation led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Abubakar Ayomide, popularly known as “Garbazin,” aged 25, who subsequently led investigators to the group’s hideout, where four other suspects were apprehended.
The other suspects were identified as Tanko Yusuf, 23; Ahmed Abibu, 24; Abubakar Shafi, 23; and Fatai Mohammed, 25.
Police said the principal suspect confessed to being a member of the Aiye Confraternity and has provided investigators with useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
A search of the suspects’ hideout led to the recovery of one battle axe, one UTC knife, two other knives, and suspected hard drugs.
The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected cult group, while investigations had been intensified to ensure the prosecution of all those involved.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the state of cultism and other violent crimes, urging residents to continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in maintaining law and order.
