Murtala Garo has been confirmed as the new deputy governor of Kano State by the State House of Assembly following his successful screening.

The confirmation came after the presentation and adoption of the report of an ad hoc committee during Monday’s plenary presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore.
Presenting the committee’s report, Muhammad Bello, Deputy Speaker , who chaired the panel said Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo.
He explained that the screening exercise was conducted in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee whenever a vacancy exists in the office of deputy governor.
According to the committee, Garo underwent a detailed screening process that included an extensive question-and-answer session on his educational qualifications, professional experience, understanding of governance and plans for the state.
The panel also said his credentials were thoroughly verified.
It added that the nominee demonstrated a clear understanding of the duties of the office and presented a practical vision to support the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf in delivering its mandate.
Based on its findings, the committee recommended his confirmation, which was subsequently adopted by the House.
Following the adoption of the report, Falgore put the recommendation to members, who unanimously approved the nomination, thereby formally confirming Garo as deputy governor.
Ibrahim Adam, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, also confirmed the development in a statement shared on Facebook.
“Kano State House of Assembly has finally screened and approved Hon. Murtala Sule Garo nominee as Deputy Governor as requested by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
