The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping following a counter-tactical operation that led to the rescue of an abducted professional truck driver, the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition and ₦2 million cash.
According to a statement signed by ASP Oluborode Opeyemi Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command said the victim was abducted at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026, around the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State. Following the report, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced efforts to secure his release and track down the perpetrators.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the operatives subsequently stormed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, where they engaged the gang in a counter-tactical operation. Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the operation, while other members of the gang reportedly fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million, which the Police said was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The bodies of the two suspected kidnappers have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while the Command has intensified efforts to track and arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for what he described as gallantry, professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness.
Ojajuni said the development reinforced the Command’s determination to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they operate or seek refuge.
The Commissioner declared that Ogun State would remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements, assuring residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.
He also urged residents to remain security-conscious and provide timely and credible information, particularly on individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, to assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
