The Ogun State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes with the arrest of two suspected cattle thieves, the recovery of six stolen cows and the foiling of a suspected abduction attempt along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The command said the operations, carried out by operatives of the Sagamu Division and the Safer Highway Patrol Team, underscore its commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response and proactive crime prevention across the state.
Two arrested as police dismantle suspected cattle theft syndicate
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, operatives of the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, over their alleged involvement in cattle theft.
Police also recovered six stolen cows and seized a blue Nissan Cabstar bus believed to have been used by the suspects during the operation.
The breakthrough followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 25, 2026, reporting that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.
Babaseyi said the operatives immediately mobilised and launched coordinated patrols around identified exit routes.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, frustrating the operation. The swift intervention led to the arrest of the two suspects, the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows and the seizure of the syndicate’s operational vehicle, which was abandoned during the failed escape.
The command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow and prosecute all those connected with the crime.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team thwarted a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on July 26, 2026.
The police said the officers, who were on routine confidence-building patrol at about 7:10 p.m., responded immediately after hearing gunshots in the area.
Their swift tactical response forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush.
The intended victim was rescued unharmed and escorted alongside his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures.
The command added that normalcy was immediately restored, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the officers involved in both operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, courage and vigilance.
He said the successful operations reflect the command’s enhanced operational capacity and determination to respond swiftly to distress calls and decisively tackle all forms of criminality.
Ojajuni reassured residents that the command remains fully in control of the security situation across Ogun State and would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated tactical operations to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that every actionable report would receive prompt attention.
