Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a planned kidnapping of a Chinese national and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in a conspiracy to demand a ransom of ₦50 million.

The statement was issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended on June 9, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. following credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer regarding an imminent abduction plot along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the intelligence prompted the immediate deployment of operatives, including members of the Division’s Surveillance Team, to the identified location, where the suspects were intercepted and arrested before they could execute the planned crime.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly conspired to abduct a Chinese expatriate and demand a ransom of ₦50 million for the victim’s release.
Further findings indicated that one of the suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena, who reportedly worked within the victim’s company as an interpreter and driver, allegedly used his position and access to facilitate the kidnapping plan.
Police investigations also uncovered the involvement of another accomplice who is currently on the run. Authorities said efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect while investigators work to uncover the full scope of the criminal network behind the conspiracy.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet and comprehensive investigation.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of officers attached to the Obalende Division, noting that their proactive actions prevented what could have resulted in a major kidnapping incident.
The police commissioner also praised the role of timely intelligence in the operation, describing it as another demonstration of the importance of community collaboration in crime prevention and security management.
Ojajuni reassured residents and members of the business community of the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing, proactive crime prevention, and the sustained pursuit of criminal elements threatening public safety.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities to the police promptly.
