Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, the Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC,has died after about eight months in office.

Wushishi, who was from Niger State, reportedly died on Friday following a brief illness.
His Special Adviser on Media, Stanley Nwosu, confirmed the development, saying the NPC chairman had been ill shortly before his death.
“Yes, it is true. The NPC chairman died after a brief illness,” Nwosu said.
Wushishi assumed office on December 2, 2025, succeeding Nasir Kwarra, whose five-year tenure as chairman of the commission ended in December 2025.
Before his appointment to head the NPC, Wushishi served as Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Niger State.
His death has sparked reactions among associates, political figures and others who knew him.
As of the time of filing this report, further details on the circumstances surrounding his death and his funeral arrangements had yet to be made public.
