The Ogun State Police Command has disrupted a suspected cult initiation procession in Isara-Remo, arresting 30 suspects and recovering four vehicles alongside several exhibits linked to the unlawful gathering.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division following credible intelligence reports about the activities of suspected cult members in the area.

According to the Command, the suspects were arrested on June 16, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m. after intelligence revealed that a group of hoodlums had assembled at an uncompleted building in Isara-Remo for an alleged cult-related meeting, involving chanting, alcohol consumption and initiation activities.

Acting swiftly on the information, the Commander of the VCRU mobilised a combined team of operatives who stormed the location and dispersed the gathering in a coordinated tactical operation.

The police arrested 30 male suspects at the scene and recovered four vehicles allegedly abandoned by some of the fleeing suspects during the operation.

Items recovered from the location included a jackknife, a local drum, a “sekere” (traditional rattle), and several bottles suspected to have been used for alcohol consumption during the illegal assembly.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, where they are undergoing further investigation. They are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Command added that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend other suspects who escaped during the raid.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, discipline and swift response.

He described the operation as a reflection of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and its zero-tolerance stance against cultism, violent crimes and unlawful gatherings across the state.

The Commissioner reiterated that cult-related activities would not be tolerated in any part of Ogun State and urged individuals involved in such activities to renounce cultism and embrace lawful means of livelihood.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious gatherings, criminal activities and security threats to the nearest police formation.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout the state.
