Panic has set in among workers and residents of the Ogun Guandong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) in the Igbesa axis of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, following a gas explosion early on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. at the mattress production section of the industrial park, when a gas cylinder reportedly exploded at a foam-manufacturing company.
The blast was followed by a fire outbreak that sent thick plumes of smoke into nearby residential areas, particularly student hostels located close to the facility.
Eyewitnesses said the loud explosion caused widespread panic, forcing students and residents to flee the area in fear.
Although the full extent of the damage has yet to be determined, sources disclosed that some buildings adjacent to the factory were gutted by f+re before emergency responders arrived.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Mr. Seyi Babaseyi, said the f+re had been successfully contained and normalcy restored. He, however, did not disclose details on casualties or the level of damage.
In a brief statement shared on his official X handle, Babaseyi noted that the Divisional Police Officer in Igbesa, alongside police personnel and officials of the State Emergency Services, was deployed to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading further.
