The African Action Congress (AAC) has announced plan for “Nationwide State of Resistance” protest on 5th of August 2026.

Speaking to supporters during the AAC presidential primary election in Abuja, Omoyele Sowore said, “This year, on August 5th, we shall declare a Nationwide State of Resistance against tyranny, oppression, corruption, exploitation, and the destruction of our future. Nigerians must once again rise peacefully, courageously, and collectively to reclaim the country from those who have turned governance into organized cruelty against the people.
Be ready. The struggle continues. Victory is certain.”

Sowore added that, “The party was founded to serve as an alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties. They criticized current government policies on security, fuel subsidies, and foreign debt, arguing that these had worsened poverty and insecurity across the country.”
The party cited its involvement in past protests including #RevolutionNow, #EndSARS, and the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations in 2024 as evidence of its role in mobilizing public dissent. It also raised concerns over the outsourcing of security functions in the Niger Delta and called for reforms in the police and other security agencies.
On economic policy, AAC leaders rejected recent reforms tied to IMF and World Bank recommendations, including the removal of fuel subsidies and currency floatation. They called for an audit of Nigeria’s public debt and pledged to break up private monopolies in key sectors if elected. The party proposed nationalizing strategic industries to ensure broader public benefit.
