Workers of the Ekiti State Government-owned Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, have threatened strike over poor welfare and inadequate funding of the institution. They decried the worrisome state of staff welfare and the institution’s financial situation.
The workers, comprising members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and National Association of Academic Technologists, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee of the unions in Ikere-Ekiti, blamed the situation on the failure of the government to review the subvention to the institution over the years and the absence of a capital grant since its establishment.
They appealed for urgent intervention to prevent the workers from embarking on industrial action.
Tope Babalola, SSANU Chairman, at a press conference jointly addressed by the unions, expressed concern that engagements with the management and requests for an audience with the state government had failed to yield results.
