It is another time of the year known as Lenten Season. Lent is a 40-day period leading to Easter.
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Holy Saturday. Originally, lent is the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness before starting his ministry.

On Ash Wednesday, millions of Christians attending Orthodox churches- Methodist, Anglican, Catholics and some other denomination takes seriously this important aspect of the Christian liturgical calendar.
This 40-day season, excluding Sundays, is dedicated to penance, fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, leading up to the celebration of Easter on April 20 and It is also time of drawing closer to God through prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and a focus on personal growth.
For Christians across the globe, it is important to recognise that it is not just a time of giving up certain comforts or indulgences but a deeper opportunity to seek spiritual transformation. The focus of this sacred period is on humility, self-examination, and the pursuit of holiness. Lent serves as a reminder of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice and calls on believers to reflect on their relationship with God, others, and themselves.
During Lent, many Christian communities hold special services, prayer vigils, and meditations. Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday (April 13, 2025) and concludes with Easter Sunday (April 20, 2025), marks the climax of the Lenten season. The events of Holy Week—including the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection—are solemnly commemorated through various liturgies and rituals, such as the Stations of the Cross, Good Friday services, and the Easter Vigil. These services invite Christians to enter into the story of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
The 2025 Lenten season offers an opportunity for spiritual renewal and personal transformation. It is a time to slow down, reflect, and grow closer to God. Whether through fasting, prayer, acts of charity, or self-examination, Lent invites believers to prepare their hearts for the joy of Easter and to live more fully in the light of Christ’s love and sacrifice.
As Christians worldwide enter this sacred time, it serves as a reminder of the call to repentance and the promise of hope and resurrection. The 2025 Lenten season offers a chance to not only remember the past but to live in the present with a renewed commitment to faith, love, and service to others.
One significant lesson to take away is that Lent is a season that encourages Christians to draw nearer to God, reflect on their lives, and seek spiritual transformation. Believers are therefore encouraged to take a closer look at their faith, deepen their commitment to prayer and fasting, and renew their dedication to serving others. By embracing the disciplines of Lent, Christians can walk with Christ toward the cross, ready to celebrate the joy of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
As we continue to re-dedicate our lives to Christ through fasting and prayers in observation of 2025 Lenten season, it is believed that God will forgive our sins and have mercy on our nation, Nigeria.
