Tinubu Vows to Tackle Insecurity, Prioritise Welfare of Vulnerable Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity across the country, declaring that rising threats will not overshadow efforts to support vulnerable Nigerians.

The President made the pledge on Sunday while hosting Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors at his Lagos residence during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Tinubu said insecurity remains a major obstacle to national development, stressing that his administration is intensifying both local and international efforts to address the challenge.

“Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress and prosperity. We must collectively confront it and ensure victory over those who threaten our peace,” he said.

The President disclosed that security cooperation formed a key part of his recent engagements in the United Kingdom, noting that discussions focused on equipment and operational support.

He added that he had also held talks with Emmanuel Macron on strengthening collaboration to enhance Nigeria’s security capacity, with further engagements planned with other countries.

President Tinubu, who recently returned from a state visit to the United Kingdom where he met Prime Minister Keir Starmer and attended events hosted by King Charles III, said global developments, particularly tensions in the Middle East, could worsen inflation and affect citizens’ purchasing power.

He urged governors to implement measures that would cushion the impact of rising energy and transportation costs, while also expanding support for vulnerable groups.

“We should care more for the vulnerable. The global situation will affect our economy, and we must be proactive in supporting our people,” he said.

The President also commended Vice President Shettima for his recent condolence visit to Borno State, assuring residents of enhanced security through the deployment of modern technology.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, praised the President’s leadership and described his recent UK visit as historic and beneficial to Nigeria’s international relations.

AbdulRazaq said governors across the country are committed to working with the Federal Government to end insecurity, adding that discussions on the establishment of state police are ongoing.

He disclosed that the Forum would soon present a framework on state policing to the National Assembly for legislative consideration.

The meeting was attended by governors from across the federation, who reiterated their support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged to strengthen collaboration in addressing security and economic challenges.
