INEC Adjusts Campaign Timeline for Osun Governorship Election

By our Reporter

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

In a statement issued and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee stated that it had earlier, on February 26, 2026, revised the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, shifting the Osun governorship poll by one week—from August 8 to August 15, 2026.

Following the adjustment, INEC stated that political campaigns in the state will now officially end at midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in accordance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that campaigns must cease 24 hours before election day.

The Commission urged all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly comply with the revised schedule to ensure a smooth electoral process.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.
