Police nab fake JAMB coordinator in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Eric Nwombu for alleged criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of JAMB examination materials.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson,  said operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police Safe School Initiative carried out the arrest.

According to him, items recovered from the suspect included eight JAMB examination slips and an exercise book containing the names and examination numbers of students, which he could not satisfactorily explain.

Ikenga said the arrest followed a report that the suspect was collecting 2026 examination slips from students who visited a cyber café in Atani to confirm their examination centres.

The statement said the suspect allegedly claimed to be a coordinator for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination in Atani.

Staff of the computer centre reportedly became suspicious of his activities and alerted police operatives in the area.

“On sighting the operatives approaching, the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended,” the statement added.

Ikenga said preliminary investigations had commenced and that the matter would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further discreet investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the integrity of public examinations and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
