The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, with the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of firearms and ammunition in separate operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda areas of the state.

In Mowe, operatives of the division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, 36, at about 4:30 p.m. on April 14. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag. The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Similarly, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) in Sagamu, while on stop-and-search duty along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road, intercepted a motorcycle rider, Asaye Ajibola, 30, on April 17. A search led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges. The suspect was arrested after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for the weapon.

In a related development, another QRS team arrested Adedeji Olufemi, 49, on April 18 at the same axis. He was found in possession of a locally made double-barrel gun with eight cartridges after being intercepted on a motorcycle.

In Odeda Local Government Area, police operatives also arrested a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, following a shooting incident at the Sawmill area of Osiele. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally while returning from the farm, resulting in injuries to three persons. The victims were taken to medical facilities and are reported to be in stable condition.

The firearm used in the incident was recovered in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and proactive efforts of the operatives, reiterating the Command’s resolve to intensify intelligence-led operations against cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and other violent crimes.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
