IGP Disu Decorates 13 AIGs, 17 CPs After Promotion of 84 Senior Officers

By Press Release

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated 30 senior officers recently promoted to the ranks of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and Commissioner of Police (CP).

The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, saw the elevation of 13 AIGs and 17 CPs. The exercise followed the earlier promotion of 84 senior officers across various ranks within the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotion list also included 54 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP).

In his address, the IGP described the promotions as recognition of merit, discipline, and proven capacity, noting that they were not merely rewards but a strategic move to strengthen leadership within the Force.

He charged the newly decorated officers to lead with integrity and professionalism, stressing the need for zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, and dereliction of duty.

Reiterating his vision for a reformed Police Force, Disu emphasized the importance of people-oriented policing, respect for human rights, and sustained community engagement as core operational principles.

The IGP also announced that all newly promoted AIGs would participate in a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat beginning on March 24, 2026. The programme, organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, is aimed at enhancing leadership capacity and promoting modern policing standards among senior officers.
