Francis Izuchukwu Ejikeme has been Impeached from his position as Students Union Government (SUG) President of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

According to a letter signed by the Senate President of the 30th House on Tuesday, Ozoelom Precious Oluchukwu, and the Chief Clerk, Amagba Gloria Akuoma, the impeachment was based on several allegations. These included his instigation of a protest and facilitation of a press conference against the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, and University Governing Council, in violation of Section 39 of the SUG constitution. This section mandates that the President must secure approval from two-thirds of the entire union membership before declaring any demonstration or confrontation on behalf of the union.

Additionally, Comrade Ejikeme was accused of usurping the constitutional powers of the SUG Vice President by organizing the students’ week, in breach of Section 41(f) of the SUG constitution, among other allegations.

In a related development, the Vice President, Comrade Onyinyechi Nwachukwu, was sworn today, July 23, 2024, at the Giant House, to act and oversee the office of the SUG President.
