Simon Ekpa Arrested, Detained in Finland Over Terrorism Crimes

Authorities in Finland have confirmed the arrest of Simon Ekpa.

According to reports, the Päijät-Häme District Court has taken the suspect into custody based on reasonable grounds for inciting actions with the intent to commit terrorist crimes.

Otto Hiltunen, crime commissioner and head of the investigation disclosed that “The police suspect that the man has promoted his efforts from Finland with means that have led to violence against civilians in the region of South-Eastern Nigeria.

Records from the court the newspaper referenced, his crime spans three years from August 23, 2021, to November 18, 2024. incident took place in Lahti on August 23, 2021.

The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is also pursuing the arrest of four more individuals in connection with charges related to terrorism.

The police said, “The detention demands are related to a preliminary investigation in which a Finnish citizen of Nigerian descent, born in the 1980s, is suspected of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.”
