Guinea-Bissau Foils Alleged Coup Plot

By Ikugbadi Oluwasegun

Guinea-Bissau’s military declared that it had successfully thwarted an attempt to “subvert the constitutional order,” detaining several senior army officers accused of scheming to derail the nation’s upcoming general elections.

The arrests took place on October 30, mere hours before the official start of campaigning for the legislative and presidential votes slated for November 23, 2025.

Among those detained was Brigadier General Daba Nawalna (also known as Dahaba Na Walna), director of the Cuméré Military Training Centre and a former president of the Military High Court.

He was apprehended at his residence in Bissau, authorities said.
