Germany has introduced a new online visa application portal that allows applicants to begin and manage selected visa requests digitally through its Consular Services platform.
The new system is designed to simplify the visa process by making applications more accessible, efficient and secure for users.
Through the portal, applicants can complete forms online, upload required documents and monitor the progress of their applications before attending physical appointments.
According to information shared in a video published Friday on the official X account of the German Embassy in Nigeria, the portal currently covers selected visa categories.
The embassy explained that documents submitted through the platform would first be pre-checked to ensure completeness before applicants are invited for in-person appointments.
Depending on the visa category, applicants may be scheduled for appointments either at the German Consulate in Lagosor at VFS Global centres for student visa processing.
According to the embassy, visa types currently supported on the portal include student visas, researcher visas, work-related visas and visas for language courses.
The move forms part of Germany’s broader effort to digitise its consular services and improve the application experience for users worldwide, including applicants in Nigeria.
Officials said the new portal is expected to reduce paperwork, provide clearer guidance on application requirements and streamline the overall visa process.
