Delta Police Probe Viral Video Alleging Assault of Woman

The Delta State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media platforms, including X, alleging that some police officers assaulted a woman and subjected her to severe flogging.

In the footage, the victim is seen narrating her ordeal, prompting public concern and calls for accountability.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State has ordered an immediate and thorough probe into the allegations. Police authorities said preliminary steps are already underway to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the officers involved.

According to the Command, the matter has been referred to the appropriate investigative unit for discreet handling, while efforts are ongoing to ensure that any personnel implicated are identified and brought to justice.

The Command has urged the victim and any concerned activist to come forward with relevant information that could aid the investigation.

Condemning the alleged act, the Command stated that assault, brutality, or abuse of citizens is unacceptable and inconsistent with the ethics and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated that the Command would not tolerate violations of citizens’ rights and dignity, warning that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action in line with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations.

He further assured the victim of confidentiality, protection, and full institutional support throughout the investigative process.

Members of the public with useful information or eyewitness accounts have also been encouraged to assist the police by contacting the Command through its Complaint Response Unit lines.
