IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, Inspector-General of Police, has felicitated Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the commencement of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while directing enhanced security deployments nationwide to ensure peaceful festivities.

In a statement issued ahead of the celebration scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the IGP prayed for peace, unity and prosperity for Nigeria and urged citizens to uphold the values of harmony and peaceful coexistence during the festive period.
As part of measures to guarantee hitch-free celebrations, the police boss directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen security operations and intensify proactive policing.
According to the statement, security measures already activated include the strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives and conventional police officers to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, critical national assets and other public places across the country.
The police also disclosed that visibility policing, coordinated patrols and stop-and-search operations had been intensified nationwide.
The Force further stated that surveillance duties and intelligence-led crime prevention operations were ongoing to deter criminal activities and ensure the protection of lives and property during the festive season.
In addition, rapid response protocols have been put in place to address any security threats that may arise during the celebrations.
The Nigeria Police Force also called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious movements or activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force places the highest premium on public vigilance. Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” the statement noted.
The IGP assured Nigerians of the commitment of the police to maintaining law and order throughout the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations across the country.
