Repair work has commenced on the Alakija Bridge after an inspection and directive from Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor, on Saturday.

Prince Lanre Sanusi, Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, led the council’s leadership on a follow-up inspection of the bridge on Monday and confirmed that work on the affected sections has started.

According to the council, the repairs are in line with the Governor’s assurance and commitment to the safety of residents and road users.

During the inspection, council officials also discovered that some individuals were residing within the affected area. For public safety, those found living there have been directed to vacate immediately.

Prince Sanusi commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and relevant state agencies for the prompt intervention and immediate start of remedial works. He said the administration will continue to monitor the progress of repairs to ensure the safety, accessibility and sustainability of critical infrastructure in Amuwo-Odofin.

The Chairman also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, protect public infrastructure, and report any act of vandalism.
