The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of a student following a fall from the rooftop of a hostel at its Lagos Campus.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, according to a press statement issued by the Council of Legal Education, the governing body of the Nigerian Law School.
The deceased student, who was enrolled at the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus, was undergoing the institution’s externship programme in Lagos and had been temporarily accommodated at the Lagos Campus hostel.
The management said preliminary information indicated that the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel and subsequently died from the incident.
The Nigerian Law School expressed deep sadness over the development, adding that it was working with relevant authorities and the deceased student’s family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.
The institution also extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues and others affected by the incident.
According to the statement, the family has appealed to members of the public and the media to respect their privacy and give them space to mourn their loss.
The Nigerian Law School urged everyone to respect the family’s wishes and refrain from actions that could further compound their grief at the difficult time.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students and staff.
