Lagos State University (LASU) is set to hold its combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies between Wednesday, 12th August and Sunday, 23rd August 2026, with a total of 20,604 students expected to graduate across the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor, disclosed this at a press conference held on Wednesday, at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Ojo.
Describing the combined ceremony as a “historic milestone,” Prof. Olatunji-Bello said it marks her final convocation as Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
“Convocation is the most important ceremony in the life of any university. It celebrates the successful completion of one phase of learning while signaling the beginning of new opportunities for the graduates to contribute meaningfully to the society,” she said.
Quoting Nelson Mandela, the VC added: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” She noted that the combined convocation is a testament to the university’s “unwavering commitment to academic stability, institutional resilience and continuous advancement.”
According to the breakdown presented by the VC, the university will graduate 3,383 postgraduate students. This comprises 618 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,508 Academic Masters, 900 Professional Masters, 238 Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D, and 119 Professional Doctoral degrees.
For undergraduate programmes, 494 students will graduate with First Class honours. 262 bagged First Class in the 2024/2025 session while 232 achieved the feat in the 2025/2026 session.
2024/2025 Academic Session; Diploma 947 graduands – 65 Distinction, 521 Upper Credit, 354 Lower Credit, 7 Pass
First Degree: 7,621 graduands – 262 First Class, 106 Unclassified MBBS/BDS, 3,155 Second Class Upper, 3,439 Second Class Lower, 622 Third Class, 37 Pass
Best Graduating Student: Ayilara Lawal Olawale, Department of Project Management, with a CGPA of 4.96
2025/2026 Academic Session
Diploma: 44 graduands – 33 Upper Credit, 11 Lower Credit
First Degree: 8,653 graduands – 232 First Class, 3,545 Second Class Upper, 4,157 Second Class Lower, 678 Third Class, 31 Pass
Best Graduating Student: Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, Department of Aerospace Engineering, with a CGPA of 4.97
The Senate has approved the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees, Honoris Causa, on three distinguished Nigerians for their exceptional contributions to national development, scholarship, and humanity.
They are: Mr. Akin Kekere-Ekun, OFR – Doctor of Business, Honoris Causa (Entrepreneurship Finance Management), Mrs. Harriet-Ann Omobola (Bola) Adesola – Doctor of Business, Honoris Causa (Corporate Finance and Governance), Alhaji Aliko Dangote – Doctor of Business, Honoris Causa (Entrepreneurship Industrial & Human Capital Development)
In addition, the University will confer the prestigious rank of Distinguished Professor on two scholars: Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye and Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello.
The 10-day activities are divided into Pre-Convocation and Convocation events.
Wednesday, 12 Aug 2026: Press Conference and Convocation Staff Sports Competition at LASU Sports Centre
Thursday, 13 Aug 2026: Staff Celebration Day at Buba Marwa Auditorium. The VC said this is the first in the university’s history and will feature participants in traditional attire to promote unity and cultural heritage
Friday, 14 Aug 2026: Coconut Breaking and Cultural Day at the Main Gate, organized by the Alumni Association, followed by Convocation Jumat Service at the University Mosque
Monday, 17 Aug 2026: Conferment of Diplomas, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s Degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at the Akinwunmi Ambode Auditorium, Epe Campus
Tuesday, 18 Aug 2026:Convocation Lecture at Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo. Lecturer: Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). Topic: “From LASU to the World: Harnessing the Nigerian Diaspora as the 7th Region for National Development”. Chairman: Hon. Tasir Wale Raji, MHR, Epe Federal Constituency. Conferment of Degrees for remaining faculties follows immediately
Wednesday, 19 Aug 2026: Conferment of Professional and Academic Doctorate Degrees, and Honorary Doctorate Degrees
Sunday, 23 Aug 2026: Special Convocation Thanksgiving Service at Chapel of Light, Ojo Campus, to formally conclude the ceremonies
Prof. Olatunji-Bello thanked the Lagos State Government, Governing Council, Senate, staff, students, alumni and media partners for their support in projecting LASU as “an institution of excellence, innovation and integrity.”
