Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, of Ondo State has approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions as part of measures to strengthen the institutions and improve the welfare of workers.

The governor also approved the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university unions across all relevant state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.
The two interventions, according to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Sunday, take effect from August 2026.
The increase in subventions is aimed at improving the financial capacity of the institutions to meet their obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries and enhance the overall learning environment for students and staff.
The implementation of the Federal Government/union agreement, the statement said, is expected to address long-standing welfare concerns, boost staff morale and align the affected institutions with national standards.
Speaking on the approvals, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed the management of the affected institutions to ensure judicious utilisation of the increased subvention, with priority given to staff welfare and academic excellence.
He also urged the unions to reciprocate the gesture by maintaining industrial harmony and focusing on the delivery of quality education to students across the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Ondo State a hub for quality tertiary education, assuring that his government would continue to implement measures aimed at strengthening state-owned institutions and improving the quality of education.
