The families and next-of-kin of 18 deceased police officers in Kebbi State have received N11.4 million in insurance benefits under the Nigeria Police Group Life Assurance (GLA) and Group Personal Accident (GPA) schemes.
The cheques were presented on Wednesday, September 17, 2026, by the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, disclosed the development in a statement issued on behalf of the commissioner.
According to the command, the disbursement formed part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to provide welfare support to families of personnel who died while serving the country.
Hadejia said the contributions and sacrifices of the deceased officers to national service remained valued, adding that the insurance payments would provide some financial assistance to their families.
The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to regard the intervention as a demonstration of the police leadership’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and their families.
The beneficiaries, in response, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, the Force Management Team and the Kebbi State Police Command for facilitating the payment.
The disbursement adds to similar insurance benefit payments recently made to families of deceased and injured police personnel in other states.
