Ondo Doctors embark on indefinite strike over unpaid wages

In order to protest unpaid salaries and other allowances by the Ondo State Government, doctors under the aegis of the National Association of Residents Doctors, the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital,(UNIMEDTH),Ondo State Chapter, on Monday commenced an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries and other allowances.

The doctors who had earlier gone on a week warning strike last week alleged that the government was indisposed to grant their request which has led the declaration of strike.

Dr. Sanni Oriyomi, Acting President of the National Association of Residents Doctors, UNIMEDTH Ondo explained that doctors could no longer work without being paid as the state government is owing members of the association four and a half month saalries,COVID-19 allowance as well as other entitlements.

As doctors down tool in Ondo State, many people are sad over this development while Africa Youth Circle, a civil society organization has called on the government to immediately commence negotiation with doctors.

In a Statement signed by Deji Oladosu, Vice President of the organization said  Governor Rotimi Akeredolu needs to act swiftly at this crucial time when Nigeria is still battling with corona virus and Ondo being the epic of Lassa fever.
