Bayelsa Police Recover Locally Made Pistol, Launch Manhunt for Fleeing Suspects

The Bayelsa State Police Command has recovered a locally made pistol after a group of suspected drug users fled on sighting police operatives during a routine patrol in Yenagoa.

The Command disclosed that the incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, along Osiri Road, Tombia, where operatives attached to the Ekeki Divisional Headquarters were conducting routine patrols.

According to the Police, the officers observed a group of youths allegedly taking illicit drugs when they approached the area.

The suspects reportedly took to their heels immediately they noticed the presence of the police, abandoning a locally made pistol at the scene.

The firearm was recovered by the operatives, while the fleeing suspects escaped before they could be apprehended.

The Police said investigations have commenced to identify and arrest those involved, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

Reaffirming its commitment to proactive policing, the Bayelsa State Police Command urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information that would assist security agencies in combating crime and enhancing public safety across the state.
