Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has revealed that he almost lost his position during the Lagos State House of Assembly impeachment crisis involving former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila disclosed that President Tinubu summoned him to his Abuja residence during the crisis and questioned him over the alleged involvement of actor-turned-politician, Desmond Elliott, in the political turmoil rocking the Assembly.
According to him, the President specifically asked whether Desmond Elliott was his loyalist, to which he responded in the affirmative.
He said President Tinubu informed him that intelligence reports linked Elliott to lawmakers allegedly behind the impeachment moves in the Assembly.
“I told the President that Desmond was not part of them, but he insisted that the intelligence available to him showed otherwise,” Gbajabiamila stated.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he immediately contacted Elliott after the meeting and advised him to distance himself from the group if he was involved in the crisis.
Gbajabiamila further revealed that about three days later, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) contacted him, informing him that his name was also being mentioned as one of the individuals backing the impeachment plot because of his perceived support for Elliott.
He said he again reached out to the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly and urged him to publicly deny involvement in the crisis.
“I asked Desmond to make a public statement to deny his involvement in the impeachment saga, but till today, he has not done so,” he said.
Gbajabiamila added that he has now withdrawn his support for Elliott, who is reportedly seeking a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
