The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against infrastructure vandalism with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of railway materials valued at over ₦400 million.

The operation, carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad, led to the arrest of Chisom Goodnews (32) and Ahmed Adamu (22) on April 9, 2026, in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence.

Police said the suspects were intercepted while transporting about 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers concealed beneath sacks of groundnut shells. The materials were reportedly being moved from Bauchi State to Ilorin in an attempt to evade detection.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver was contracted for ₦2.5 million to transport the illicit cargo, while further findings point to an organised network of suppliers and receivers linked to the vandalism of critical national infrastructure.

In a notable development, police operatives involved in the operation reportedly rejected a ₦100 million bribe offered to compromise the investigation and secure the release of the suspects and recovered items.

The trailer truck used in conveying the materials has been impounded, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, including intended buyers, and recover additional exhibits.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and integrity, describing their actions as a reflection of the core values of the Force.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting critical national assets and combating criminal activities across the country.
