Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and recovered a stolen cow valued at ₦1.7 million, along with a knife and an operational vehicle used in the commission of the crime.

The suspects, identified as Muhammed Monsur and Olaseinde Olatunji, were apprehended by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit following a distress call from a farmer in the Ifo/Ibogun axis of the state.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 30, 2026, at about 2:30 a.m., when suspected cattle rustlers reportedly invaded a dairy farm located at Omitoro Village via Coker and made away with a cow.

Police operatives, acting swiftly on the report, mobilised to the scene and intercepted the suspects as they attempted to flee in a mini bus, popularly known as “Korope,” after their suspicious movement raised alarm in the area.

The prompt response led to the arrest of the two suspects, while exhibits recovered include the stolen cow, a knife, and the vehicle used in the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a four-man gang, with two other accomplices escaping into the surrounding bush.

The police confirmed that the recovered vehicle has been secured at the Ibogun SWAT office, while the stolen cow was documented for evidential purposes and subsequently returned to its owner after necessary attention.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case will be transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further action and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift response of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency lines.
