The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) under the leadership of Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye, has arrested seven suspects for illegal blasting activities with explosives at mining site in Akure, Ondo State.

According to the Command, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Mines and Steel Unit, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Mines, headed by Engr. Mayowa Omosebi, on Thursday, arrested the suspects at the Agbogbo area, along Ilesa–Akure–Owo Expressway, Akure.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, all male, were engaged in illegal blasting operations, using explosives without the necessary authorization and permits, contrary to the relevant mining and explosives laws.
The suspects, all residents of Akure but indigenes of different states, were identified as:
- Ifaronuwo Gboyega, 47, from Osun State
- Adesina Kayode, 32, from Ondo State
- Oluwasusi Ayomidele, 32, from Ekiti State
- Durojaye Temitope, 43, from Ekiti State
- Abayomi Oke, 28, from Ekiti State
- Sakariyau Olawole, 29, from Ondo State
- Sikiru Kazeem, 39, from Ondo State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Daniel Aidamenbor, in a statement disclosed that the operation further underscored the strong and effective collaboration between the Command and relevant stakeholders in the mining sector within the state. The synergy has significantly enhanced intelligence sharing and enabled rapid intervention in critical situations, he said.
