Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered a full investigation into the death of a 45-year-old woman who died shortly after giving birth to quintuplets in Akure.

The woman, Mary Yaduyan, reportedly died at Netcare Multispeciality Hospital hours after delivering five baby boys through a caesarean section.
Medical experts attributed her death to pulmonary embolism, a complication said to have occurred after childbirth.
In response to the incident, the Ondo State Government announced a ₦2 million donation to support the care of the newborns, who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Aiyedatiwa, who was represented during a visit to the facility by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Seun Osamaye, expressed sadness over the development.
“The governor is deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. His administration remains committed to safeguarding the lives of pregnant women and ensuring that no effort is spared in caring for these babies,” Osamaye said.
She noted that the donation was intended to provide immediate support for the quintuplets, adding that the government was also considering long-term measures, including the possible transfer of the babies to a specialised medical facility once they stabilise.
Osamaye said the tragedy underscored the need for proactive interventions in high-risk pregnancies and stressed the importance of proper monitoring and timely referrals in complicated medical cases.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Health, Adiji Ojohe, confirmed that a formal investigation had commenced into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
“The Ministry of Health has set the necessary machinery in motion to unravel the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate development,” he said.
Ojohe added that appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings of the investigation to improve maternal healthcare delivery and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
