The Imo State Police Command has flagged off the Safe School Orientation Programme and security inspection exercise in schools across the state.
Abdullahi Wase, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, in charge of the Safe School Initiative in Imo State, urged students to shun cultism and substance abuse, stressing the need for a secure environment for learning.
The statement indicates that the Safe School Programme is a Federal Government initiative aimed at strengthening security in schools across Imo State.
The further reaffirms its commitment to working with schools and communities to prevent crime and promote a safe learning environment.
Students and staff were sensitised on security awareness and intelligence gathering, while schools were encouraged to adopt CCTV surveillance linked to the state security command.
Stakeholders commended the initiative, which also featured the presentation of security awareness booklets and signing of inspection forms.
The team will conduct a 90-day orientation and inspection exercise across primary and secondary schools in the state.
