The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a suspected cult-related clash that left one person dead in Abeokuta.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday along Wasimi Ake–Ijemo Agbadu Road, reportedly involved members of rival cult groups who engaged in a violent confrontation.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, clarified that the clash took place strictly along the roadway between Centenary Hall and Lotus Bank towards the Ijemo Agbadu axis, and was not connected to any event at Ake Palace, including the Yayi Progressive Movement inauguration.
According to the police, gunshots were heard during the clash, causing panic in the area as the hoodlums fled into adjoining streets. Operatives of the Oke Itoku Division were promptly deployed to the scene following distress calls.
On arrival, the officers found a male victim, identified simply as “Stone,” with severe gunshot wounds. He was rushed, in collaboration with the State Ambulance Service, to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, where he was confirmed dead. His remains have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
The command said it has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and is pursuing credible leads to ensure their arrest and prosecution.
Police authorities added that normalcy has been restored in the area, with adequate security presence put in place to prevent further violence.
Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant and to provide useful information to aid ongoing investigations, as the command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property.
