The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough with the rescue of all passengers abducted during the Otukpo kidnapping incident involving a Benue Links bus on April 15, 2026.

Police operatives in Benue State, acting on credible intelligence, carried out coordinated clearance operations across the Amla Forest corridor and surrounding areas, leading to the safe rescue of the remaining 13 victims.
Among those rescued were eight students travelling to Otukpo to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The police confirmed that all 18 passengers involved in the incident have now been accounted for.
Authorities disclosed that each rescued victim has undergone medical evaluation, is in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families after necessary debriefing.
During the operation, seven suspects were arrested, with three already identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate. The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue to apprehend other accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the officers and men of the Benue State Police Command for their professionalism and gallantry in the rescue operation.
He also directed the intensification of clearance operations within the Otukpo axis to sustain security and prevent further criminal activities in the area.
The police boss reassured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
