Tinubu Nominates Rabiu Umar as NMDPRA Chief Executive, Removes Saidu Mohammed

President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

In a related development, the President has nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive of the Authority, subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.

According to a State House statement, the decision was taken in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, with the aim of strengthening regulatory effectiveness in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector.

Mr Umar is described as a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience spanning the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. He is a graduate of Bayero University Kano and an alumnus of Harvard Business School.

Pending Senate confirmation, the most senior official within the Authority will oversee operations in an acting capacity.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing chief executive for his service and wished him success in his future endeavours.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening leadership in key regulatory institutions to drive energy security, sector reforms, and sustainable economic growth.
