Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, the attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, 10 August 2026. A large number of terrorists attempted to overrun the troops’ position but were met with “determined and effective fire.”

The military said the attackers withdrew after sustaining heavy casualties. During the engagement, troops neutralised several terrorists and recovered weapons, ammunition, and communication gadgets. A post-engagement review of surveillance footage also confirmed that retreating terrorists were evacuating more casualties.

The statement noted that a section of the base’s defences was temporarily breached, and some combat enablers and vehicles were damaged by Rocket Propelled Grenade fire. A few troops sustained injuries and were promptly airlifted for treatment. Authorities said they are currently stable and receiving medical attention.

Following the attack, troops remain deployed in and around the FOB and adjoining areas to maintain dominance, monitor the situation, and prevent further attempts by the terrorists to re-engage. Exploitation of the operational area and assessment of terrorists’ casualties are ongoing.

Residents of Gajiram and surrounding communities have been advised to remain calm and go about their lawful activities. The public was also urged to report any suspicious movement to the nearest security agencies or call 07084988859 to support intelligence sharing.

The Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on ISWAP until lasting peace and stability are restored in the North East.
