Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the country’s commitment to a comprehensive nuclear test ban. He emphasized that Africa’s focus should be on addressing pressing issues like poverty and climate change, rather than nuclear power negotiations.

Shettima made this statement while hosting Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He commended the CTBTO’s vigilance in detecting nuclear tests, citing its 337 monitoring stations worldwide.
The Vice President highlighted the devastating consequences of nuclear conflict, noting that it would have severe repercussions. He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to fighting poverty and ecological challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.
Shettima assured that Nigeria will continue working closely with the CTBTO to strengthen the international regime against nuclear tests, promoting global peace and stability.
