Ademola Adeleke, Osun State Governor, has granted amnesty to 36 convicts to commemorate the 65th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.
In a press release signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor said the gesture followed the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

He noted that most of the beneficiaries had been convicted of minor offences such as stealing and conspiracy, with many already serving substantial portions of their sentences.

Governor Adeleke explained that the decision reflects the spirit of compassion, justice, and renewal, which Independence Day symbolizes.

According to the statement, 29 convicts were released from Ilesa Correctional Centre and seven from Ile-Ife Correctional Centre.
