As today marks the end of the mandatory number of years to be spent in the service by the Inspector General of Police, the Presidency has kept mum over who takes over as the new Police chief.
Mr. Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police whose tenures comes to an end today and many other top officials of the Nigerian Police force are yet to get a substantive replacement having spent the maximum number of years in the service as presidency was yet to make a statement as at press time.
The IGP, who joined the service on February 1, 1986, will attain the mandatory 35 years in service.
Adamu took over from Ibrahim Idris who retired in January 2019.
It is however unclear if he will get extension or be asked to hand over to the most senior officer.
By the rule-the amended Police Act, signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari puts the retirement age of police officers at 60 years of age or 35 years of service.
In a right scenario, a replacement for the IGP ought to have been announced few days to his retirement.
