President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 officials into the boards and management of 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, appointed as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments, announced on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, take immediate effect.
According to the statement, Fayose will head the board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors. The board also includes the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors.
President Tinubu also appointed retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries and Wages Commission.
Former member of the House of Representatives, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was named Secretary of the Commission, while Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde were appointed as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states, respectively.
Other members appointed into the Commission are Dr. Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi).
The President also redeployed Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who was previously appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), to serve as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
In other appointments, Dr. Abuh Mohammed was named Director-General of the National Population Commission, while Dr. Akinola Odeyemi was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET).
Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
President Tinubu also named Engineer Julius Oloro as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), Ilorin, replacing the late Dr. A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
The President further constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission with Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman.
Other members of the board are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Similarly, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in April.
To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan, former Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), President Tinubu appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as the new Executive Director (Finance).
Iorja, an economist, legal scholar and academic, currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect as part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and improve the performance of key government institutions.
