Afrobeat singer and president of Marlian Music, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, has been summoned by the House of Representatives over issues surrounding royalties of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Along Naira Marley, the House on Thursday, through its Committee on Justice, Youth and Legislative Compliance, also invited Jiggy Adeoye, manager of the late singer, to an interactive session scheduled for Tuesday, October 31.

This was contained in a letter dated October 26 and signed by the committee’s clerk, Yusuf Ibrahim.

The House said both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager were needed to guide the committee on further legislative action.

It was recalled that the late Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music, died in September, with several controversies surrounding his demise.

The House had resolved to wade into the matter following the adoption of a motion moved by Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos).

The summon of the duo was to work around proper compensations for the late singer as well as guide the committee on steps to take on contract and agreement in the entertainment industry.

The lawmaker called for a review of relevant laws guiding the entertainment industry as well as copyright, with great concerns around contracts and agreements that entertainers are coxed to signing.
