Ogun gets Commissioner Nominees for Information, Education Ministries after 18months

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has submitted the names of two nominees to the Ogun state house of Assembly for confirmation to fill the vacancies in the Education and Information Ministries after 18-months.

Prince Dapo Abiodun was sworn in as the fifth executive Governor of Ogun State since May 29,2019 and  has been running the Ministry of Education and Information without Commissioners.

After lot of agitations and outburst, the Governor has finally yielded to the voice of the people by nominating- Mr Waheed Odusile, former president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) from Ijebu Mushin and Professor Arigbabu Abayomi, Vice- Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education,(TASUED) Ijagun, Ogun State.

Prof. Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu, a Professor of Mathematics Education was until his appointment, the Vice Chancellor of the Premier University of Education in Nigeria.

An Alumnus of the University of Lagos, Nigeria who had his first and second degree in Mathematics Education from the University.

Prof. Arigbabu bagged a Ph.D at the University of South Africa, Pretoria in Mathematics, Science and Technology with specialization in Mathematics Education.

As a Mathematician and Mathematics Educator, Prof. Arigbabu has been involved in Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) Education and preparation programmes in Nigeria in the last two and a half decades.

Abdulwaheed Odusile is the former NUJ President. Prior to his election as President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in 2015, he was the Managing Editor of The Nation Newspapers based in Lagos.

He had also held various other Editorial positions including being the pioneer Editor of National Life Newspaper also based in Lagos. An activist and crusader, the challenge of re-positioning the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in particular and Journalism to attain its rightful position as the fourth estate of the realm is his concern, hence actions targeted towards Journalism enhancement and practice, achieving the capacity building of media professionals in Nigeria and weeding out quacks from the system.

Several times National officer of the NUJ and member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, he is a graduate of Journalism and also holds a Masters degree in Legal Studies. A vastly travelled personality, this experience has brought him in contact with Journalists all over the world through solidarity in trade union activities and conferences. Abdulwaheed Odusile is a member of international federation of Journalists (IFJ) Federation of African Journalist (FAJ) West Africa Journalists Association (WAJA) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
