Kaduna PDP women’s leader steps down

Godiya Lolo, the Kaduna State Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party,  has resigned from both her position and membership of the party.

Lolo conveyed her decision in a letter dated April 13, addressed to the party chairman in Dura/Bitaro Ward of Jaba Local Government Area, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve in a key leadership role.

“I have formally stepped down from my membership and role within the PDP. I am grateful for the experience and the privilege of serving as State Woman Leader. It has been an honour,” she said.

Although she did not disclose her next political step, sources within Kaduna’s political circles say her name has emerged among members of a Kaduna South campaign team linked to the ruling party, fuelling speculation of a possible defection.

If confirmed, her involvement in the campaign structure could mark a notable shift, considering her strong influence in mobilising women and grassroots supporters across the state.

Analysts note that the development reflects ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures reposition for strategic advantage.

Attempts to get official confirmation from the ruling party were unsuccessful as of press time, though insiders hinted that more high-profile defections could occur in the coming weeks.

Lolo’s departure is viewed as a blow to the PDP in Kaduna, particularly within its women’s wing, where she played a pivotal role in boosting participation and coordination.

The party has yet to issue an official statement, but sources say consultations are underway to fill the leadership gap and prevent further internal cracks.
