The Kebbi State Government has unveiled 50 new 18-seater Toyota commercial buses as part of efforts to address transportation challenges and improve mobility for residents across the state.

The buses were launched on Thursday at the newly reconstructed motor park in Birnin Kebbi by political leader Umar Faruk-Buro, who said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to making transportation easier and more accessible for citizens.
According to him, the buses will soon begin operations on various routes across the state to serve residents regardless of political, religious or ethnic background.
Faruk-Buro dismissed claims that the vehicles were procured for political purposes, describing the allegations as baseless.
He said the buses were intended to support transport unions, create opportunities for drivers and improve the welfare of the people.
He also advised transport operators to uphold professionalism, honesty and safety standards while carrying out their duties.
Faruk-Buro warned drivers against picking passengers outside designated motor parks and urged them to ensure proper screening of luggage before every trip.
Speaking at the event, Bala Muhammad-Gagga, the Commissioner for Transport, described the unveiling as a major step forward for the state’s transport sector.
He said the remodelled motor park is among the best in the country and noted that the newly acquired buses would significantly improve transport services in Kebbi.
Muhammad-Gagga commended Governor Nasir Idris for the intervention, adding that the buses would operate at subsidised fares to reduce the burden on commuters.
He assured residents that transport charges would be cheaper than those of private operators, providing affordable and dependable services.
Also speaking, Hayatu Bawa, the Commissioner for Physical Planning, praised the governor for the initiative and urged beneficiaries to maintain the vehicles properly.
He said proper use and maintenance of the buses would ensure they serve the people for a long time.
The rollout forms part of the Kebbi State Government’s wider plan to modernise infrastructure and strengthen public service delivery, especially in the transportation sector.
