The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will be defeated in the 2027 general election, saying it has put measures in place to protect every vote cast for its candidates.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing journalists during a sensitisation walk in Ilorin, Kwara State, organised to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 polls.
Abdullahi said the party was determined to defend its votes nationwide and would not rely solely on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to safeguard its electoral mandate.
According to him, the ADC’s position was informed by its experience in the 2023 general election, which he said left the party disappointed despite placing confidence in the electoral process.
While acknowledging that some officials within INEC remain committed to conducting credible elections, Abdullahi maintained that elections should not be based on trust alone.
He said the party had developed strategies to ensure that votes cast for its candidates are protected, although he declined to disclose the details.
“We know what INEC is capable of. We trusted the commission during the 2023 general election, but the outcome left us disappointed. We will not make the same mistake again by relying solely on trust,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the ADC’s confidence in its vote-protection measures gave the party the conviction that President Tinubu would lose the 2027 presidential election.
“We are not going to tell you, but that is what we are going to do if we must win this election,” he stated.
